From Darby: Clayton has his second treatment today, and we also were able to meet with Dr. Shalaby before to go over his bloodwork. The good news is after just ONE treatment on this chemo, his pain has almost completely subsided and he taking NO pain pills anymore, and his CEA number dropped from 6.9 to 5.2 in just 2 weeks! Huge praise!! He also wants us to hold off on the targeted radiation on the 2 spots on his back- the T4 and his 10th rib- until the end of treatment because his pain has subsided so much. The reasoning for this is that it seems like those spots are already responding to the chemo, and if they are, we will let the chemo do its job for the next few rounds before we throw radiation at it as well. If he were to start having pain or his numbers change, then we would pivot. So the plan for now is to stick with chemo every 2 weeks, and probably not do more than 6 rounds total, and then rescan. We would then see where he is at, and then look at going back to the clinical trials after we finish these treatments. Our biggest prayer is that of course the chemo would keep working, chemo and cancer is like a moving target. There is always the chance the cancer could become resistant to the chemo, so we are praying that doesn’t happen! We are also praying Clayton will be able to keep the nausea at bay and able to eat, he has already lost about 10 pounds in the last 2 weeks since the first treatment so we are doing everything we can to keep his weight up. We are already seeing SO many answered prayers in just ONE treatment and it has been such a huge relief and weight lifted since our last update, and I can not tell you how much we have felt your prayers in our family. We would not make it through this without you standing with us in prayer!
