From Darby: It has been a minute since our last update, mostly because there has been no news...which is great! Clayton has still been going every 3 weeks for his normal treatments as well as still taking his chemo pills. Clayton had an appointment with Dr. Shalaby, his oncologist, yesterday before treatment to discuss a couple of things. First, his cancer marker number (CEA) has been slowly increasing with every treatment since his surgery in April. We know this isn’t a full picture of cancer, but it has still been a little hard not to worry about. Dr. Shalaby assured us that it is not something to worry about as of now, and even though it has been raising each time, it is still within the “normal” range. So for now we are resting in the fact that it’s nothing to be alarmed about yet! They also discussed with his colon surgeon, Dr. Baucom, when he would be able to do the colostomy reversal. She feels comfortable doing the reversal at the end of January as long as he has another scan mid-December and it comes back clear! Very exciting news!! Since we will hopefully be moving forward with the surgery at the end of January, he will temporarily stop the IV chemo because it can cause complications with surgery. But he will continue to take his chemo pills throughout the next few months up until surgery! Please be praying with us that his CEA numbers do not continue to rise, and that we can truly be at peace without worrying. Also that his scan coming up in mid December would be clear so that he can have his colostomy reversal! We are thankful every time we send out an update with the response and care we receive, and we just can’t ever tell you how thankful we are for each of you!
