Clayton Health Update - 2/3/25

Brandon Gwinn

Update from Darby:

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 1000 times, cancer is a roller coaster. We got to Clayton’s appointment today with Dr. Shalaby and his CEA numbers have gone up again. As we discussed in our last appointment, we are going to continue with the two new chemo’s, but are also going to add another Chemo that we will administer with a pump that he will wear for the first 48 hours after each treatment. Clayton is also going to be doing this new protocol every 2 weeks instead of every 3. And because of the new protocol, Dr. Shalaby thinks it’s best for Clayton to have a port inserted again, so we did NOT have treatment today. We are tentatively scheduled to have his first treatment next Monday the 10th, and are waiting to hear back from Dr. Baucom, the surgeon who did his colostomy surgery, to see if she can get him in this week for a port implant. These new chemo treatments will probably take around 4-5 hours (not counting his lab draws and appointments with Dr. Shalaby) so treatment days will be VERY long, and obviously every 2 weeks now… So needless to say, we are leaving today’s appointment a little deflated with the rise in his numbers, and knowing that our treatment days moving forward are going to be longer and more frequent. BUT we also know that God is in control, and he is not surprised by any of this. There is peace in knowing that whatever is ahead, is under the authority of Jesus, not treatment, our plan or even in the hope of doctors. Our hope is still in Him. Please be praying with us that these chemo’s are effective with little side effects. Spring is a VERY busy and exciting time for our family with everything our kids are involved in and we want Clayton at everything with us!!! I know I say it often, but thank you so much for walking through this with us. Sometimes I feel guilty for the support that we have, knowing that not everyone has this…I just want you to know it’s not lost on me how fortunate we are and how thankful we are for all of you.
